The Graduation Ovataion, "Marcus Robinson is Love by His Father!"

Last Friday I attended the middle school graduation at Fredrick Douglass Academy in Los Angeles. During the ceremony there was a presentation of student awards. It caught my attention that a young man named Marcus Robinson was awarded everything including an award from President Obama. This young man was the class Valedictorian with a GPA of 4.11. He was the smallest in the class and when I first spied him I thought he looked to be in the age range of 9 or 10 years old. His achievements are awe inspiringly amazing.

The reason I write about him today is while sitting there it caught my attention that very few outside of his family, the administrators and the staff were enthused with this high achievements. I thought to myself this is what the Bible speaks about. During the ceremony as names were called and young people stepped up to receive certificates and diplomas… there were so many that had not even gotten a 2.5 who were cheered and given adulation beyond any that I’d seen at larger graduation ceremonies. Many of them sauntered towards the Dean arrogantly to the applause and screams. And then when Marcus was called and went up, I stood with his parents and looked at my family and said, “DON’T BE LIKE THESE OTHERS, they are hating (envying) on his success….STAND UP & APPLAUD!”

I thought these things
“…woe to those who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” ~Isaiah 5:20

“…They will not love anything that is good.” ~2 Timothy 3:3

I saw the smug eye rolls and bent out of shape looks and I said “AUDIBLY”, Everyone should be standing to give this young man a standing ovation for his outstanding work.

Then his father turned to me and said, “He hears it from his family everyday, we always tell him how proud we are and how well he is doing.”

Our Father! Our Father! Our Father! An apparent Love that is everlasting and unfailing. A Love that can’t be quenched by the ways of the world. It will not be denied and it brings such joy in the midst of every chaos.

“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”~ Jeremiah 3:13

You know what? Each time when Marcus’ name was called he went up to receive the awards with a HUGE smile and although he did not receieve major applause and flattering audation… you would have thought he’d received a standing ovation each time he was called… do you know why? I think he knew that his father was pleased
