The Bible DOES tell us to put on the whole Armor of God, BUT it does not say to do so that we will be ready to fight… it does not charge us to be armed to go out to battle dark forces. It says that having done “ALL” …we will be able to RESIST!
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. ~Ephesians 6:13
Once we are armed what is left to do? The Word says we have DONE EVERYTHING. Once we have put on the FULL Armor of God, there is nothing left to do but to STAND FIRM and pray.
That is ALL that Jesus asked of the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane…. WATCH (stand firm) and PRAY! Peter was ready to do battle but Jesus rebuked him. Peter had not been watching (standing firm) and praying as Jesus had requested. He had been sleeping instead. Peter was not prepared to resist evil… he was ready to fight. We must WATCH (stand firm) and PRAY!
After telling the Ephesians to stand firm Paul ends with these words, “
With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel” ~Ephesians 6:18
